Jon Stewart to return to stand-up in upcoming HBO specials

Jon Stewart is about to release his first stand-up comedy special in 21 years. HBO, which like CNN is owned by Time Warner, made the announcement Wednesday. The former host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” will appear in two upcoming specials. The network did not say when the specials will air. The last time Stewart took his jokes to a stand-up mic was in 1996 for HBO’s “Jon Stewart: Unleavened.” There’s been much buzz in the entertainment sphere about his next move ever since Stewart — a longtime staple ...

Intel’s Upcoming 12-Core CPU May Clock Well Below AMD’s Threadripper

Intel and AMD have been locked in combat ever since Ryzen 7 debuted and put AMD back in the CPU race for the first time in six years. Both companies are prepping to release higher core count processors, but Intel is playing this game fairly conservatively, if recent rumors can be believed. According to VideoCardz leaked presentation, Intel’s upcoming Core i9-7920X will be a 12-core / 24-thread CPU with 16.5MB of cache. That works out to the same 1.375MB of L3 that other Skylake-SP processors have. But the reported base ...

'Star Wars' fans will go nuts over Disney's upcoming park plans

5 stunning stats about Disney That galaxy far, far away is about to get a lot closer for “Star Wars” fans. Disney on Saturday unveiled plans for a “Star Wars”-inspired hotel, which Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek called “the most experiential” luxury resort they’ve ever done. “It’s unlike anything that exists today,” Chapek said at a panel during D23 Expo, the company’s Anaheim-based biennial convention. “It is 100% immersive.” The mock-ups shared by Chapek showed guests in “Star Wars” attire and rooms in which “every single window ...

Upcoming Nvidia Driver Will Enable Netflix 4K Streaming, Sort Of

Over the past year, it’s often seemed as if Microsoft and Netflix have done everything they could possibly do to prevent 4K streaming on PCs. While 4K started rolling out on Netflix several years ago, only a handful of smart TVs were supported. The situation has only improved slightly since then. Technically, you can watch 4K Netflix from a PC now, but only if you run Windows 10, use Microsoft Edge, and have a seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake CPU. An upcoming Nvidia driver is going to change that situation ...

Think Twice Before Getting Excited for Nintendo’s Upcoming SNES

In July 2016, we first covered the Mini Classic NES, later officially called the NES Classic Edition. It was a tiny Nintendo with original controllers, 30 preloaded games, and an original controller. As information leaked out, it became clear this thing was really going to be something special, with excellent game reproduction and multiple graphics modes, plus some saved game options that didn’t exist when the NES first launched. My significant other is a fan of classic Nintendo and I never got to play most of the games from the NES ...

Upcoming NASA probe will fly into the sun’s corona

The sun is a giant nuclear fireball that, as a rule, melts anything that comes close. Yet, there’s a NASA plan to send a spacecraft into the sun’s upper atmosphere to get a closer look at it and gather data on coronal mass ejections (CME). The spacecraft is called Solar Probe Plus (SPP), and it’s being designed and built by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. If all goes as planned, it’ll launch in 2018. A coronal mass ejection is often associated with solar flares, but the two phenomena ...

Performance, pricing details for AMD’s upcoming Ryzen CPU leak online

Over the weekend, a brace of leaks spilled critical information on how AMD’s Ryzen will compare with Intel’s Core i7 family, and how the chips will supposedly be priced. All of this information should be taken as preliminary and with a substantial grain of salt given the websites involved in leaking it and their records (WCCFTech’s in particular) of playing fast and loose with the truth. This is rumor, not fact, and should be treated equivalently. That said, these rumors are at least plausible. According to VideoCardz, which leaked the ...

Upcoming Xbox One patch will snip console’s Snap mode

Microsoft’s Xbox One unveil back in spring 2013 didn’t have a lot of high points, but the console did feature a new mode Microsoft clearly hoped would be a key differentiation factor in years to come: Snap mode. Microsoft made much of the fact that you could “snap” various types of content to the side of the screen while still playing a game, in what was clearly a console-specific implementation of the app-pinning Windows 8 and 10 both support. The feature never made a ton of sense to me — ...
