Cody Bellinger is real and he is spectacular

12:00 AM ET What can you say about Cody Bellinger other than he’s real and he’s spectacular. The Los Angeles Dodgers rookie slugged two more home runs in a crazy 12-6 win over the Rockies — don’t worry, we’ll get to all those wild pitches in a moment — and is up to 24 on the season, already a National League record for home runs by a rookie before the All-Star break, with 13 games still remaining. He has been performing feats of strength almost every day, it seems. Bellinger’s ...

Real or not? Did Scooter Gennett have the best offensive performance ever?

11:34 PM ET His given name is Ryan Joseph Gennett and the story goes that he earned the nickname Scooter when he was 5 years old and his mother took him to the police station in order to scare him into wearing his seat belt. “I told the cops Scooter Gennett because that was my favorite Muppet Babies character,” he said back in 2014. “I kind of just used it as an alias, I thought I would get in trouble if I told them my real name.” Now the name ...

The real story behind Trump's claim that Paris would kill 2.7 million jobs

MSFT, Tesla, GE react to climate deal withdrawal Massive job losses. Lower wages. Shuttered factories. Brownouts and blackouts . That’s the grim future that President Trump said he was trying to avoid when he announced that the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate change deal. “Compliance with the terms of the Paris Accord and the onerous energy restrictions it has placed on the United States could cost America as much as 2.7 million lost jobs by 2025,” he said, citing a study from NERA Economic Consultants. NERA is ...

Best Laptops for Engineers and Engineering Students: When Work Requires a Real Workstation

The high-end laptop market for engineering may be shrinking, as more work gets moved to the cloud, but there are still plenty of good options. Just like with gamers, engineers pose one of the toughest design challenges for laptop makers. Engineering applications need plenty of memory, graphics horsepower, and large screens — all hurdles in designing stylish, lightweight laptops. The result is something of a trade-off between performance and convenience. The only constant seems to be price. Laptops that can perform an engineering workload get more powerful every year, but usually don’t ...

Real or not? Marcell Ozuna is the next Yoenis Cespedes

3:02 AM ET Trivia time! Who started in last year’s All-Star Game for the National League? (A) Yoenis Cespedes; (B) Marcell Ozuna. It’s kind of a trick question. Cespedes was voted to start, but he strained a quadriceps a couple of days before the game, and Ozuna ended up starting in center field. The New York Mets and Miami Marlins kicked off a four-game series on Thursday with an entertaining, marathon game that went 16 innings, with the Mets finally winning 9-8 on Travis d’Arnaud‘s home run off Adam Conley, ...

Real or not? Mets the best power-hitting team and Tribe has top trio

2:06 AM ET This is what the New York Mets do: They hit home runs. Of course, they don’t always hit seven home runs, as they did in a 14-4 victory Tuesday over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. You could also say this is what Matt Harvey does: He gets hurt. Harvey left in the middle of the sixth inning with the team trainer, but those innings of anxiety were eventually calmed when it was revealed he just had a cramp in his hamstring and will make his next ...

Scientists develop a robot capable of listening when told it’s wrong, in real time

Baxter is a robot developed in 2012 by Rethink Robotics, the project of former CSAIL director Rodney Brooks. Now a research team from Boston University and MIT’s CSAIL have successfully enabled Baxter to interpret and obey brain waves in real time. It’s a step toward smoother control of, and coexistence with, robots: being able to remotely take action, by simply thinking “no.” Their setup gave Baxter a simple sorting task and a human judge wearing an EEG cap. Baxter was tasked with sorting things into two bins correctly. When it ...
