In Wake of Apple Loss, Imagination Technologies Puts Itself Up for Sale

Earlier this April, Imagination Technologies announced that it would no longer provide key graphics IP to Apple within 15 to 24 months (July 2018 to April 2019). The announcement sent the company’s stock plunging, and Imagination soon announced that it would seek to sell off at least two business segments: MIPS, its low power and embedded microprocessor division; and Ensigma, its low-power wireless division. The plan, at least initially, was to double down on its core graphics business, which has produced the bulk of the company’s revenue in recent years. ...

Sean Hannity's conspiracy theory puts pressure on Fox

July 2016: DNC staffer Seth Rich fatally shot Sean Hannity’s decision to promote a baseless conspiracy theory about the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich has brought new public pressure on Fox News, just as it was beginning to emerge from a year of high-profile scandals. Cars.com, Peleton exercise bikes and mattress company Leesa Sleep withdrew their advertisements from Hannity’s program on Wednesday — a move reminiscent of last month’s advertiser boycott in response to revelations about Bill O’Reilly’s alleged sexual harassment. In a rare interview with Huffington ...

Intel Puts the Kibosh on Reports It Will License AMD GPU Technology

One of the more intriguing (and if we’re being honest, slightly weird) rumors from last year was that AMD and Intel might cooperate on a GPU patent-sharing deal, or possibly a direct design agreement in which AMD would build GPUs for its largest competitor in the CPU space. The only reason we gave the idea any consideration at all was because AMD had reorganized its graphics unit into the Radeon Technology Group (RTG) specifically so that it could have more freedom to pursue ideas and potential revenue sources. A custom ...

Manu Ginobili's 'first' puts Spurs one game away from Western finals

3:07 AM ET SAN ANTONIO — When you’re 39 and a future Hall of Famer, not many firsts come your way anymore on the court; especially when you’re a four-time NBA champion in Year 15 of a career fast coming to a close. But in this case, Manu Ginobili‘s “first” snuffed out James Harden‘s last attempt at tying up Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals, preserving San Antonio’s 110-107 overtime victory. See, the play actually marked the first time Ginobili has ever blocked Harden’s shot. It’s a feat accomplished ...

Microsoft now puts ads in Windows 10 File Explorer, because of course

Microsoft made a lot of changes in Windows 10 that helped it put the mistakes of Windows 8 in the rear view mirror. Not all of Microsoft’s ideas are good, though. The company has shown a tendency to get a little too casual with how it promotes its services within Windows. You might even call these “ads.” Microsoft would, of course, dispute that description. Some of these things that look very much like ads have started showing up in File Explorer. Specifically, Windows 10 has started nagging people to buy ...

Kawhi Leonard game-winner lifts Spurs, puts him in exclusive company

1:19 AM ET SAN ANTONIO — Visual evidence indicates Kawhi Leonard lifted his pivot foot ever so slightly when backing down Paul George to nail the game-winning bucket Wednesday in the San Antonio Spurs‘ 100-99 triumph over the Indiana Pacers. Even Pacers coach Nate McMillan “thought he traveled before he took that shot.” Regardless, where Leonard heads now is into San Antonio’s history books. He joined an exclusive club with a 31-point effort against Indiana, making him the fourth player in franchise history to produce 20 games with 30-plus points ...
