Tesla’s First Model 3 Rolls Off the Line, as Company Stock Takes a Beating

There’s a pair of seemingly contradictory events happening for Tesla right now. On the one hand, the first Tesla Model 3 supposedly rolled off the assembly line this week, a major achievement for the company. Given the company’s huge valuation and its long-stated goal of building the Model 3 as the first “mainstream” electric vehicle for the masses (a goal since arguably surpassed by other manufacturers), you’d think investors would be thrilled. Instead, the stock has taken a hammering over the past seven days, leaving GM once more in the ...

Fowler next in line to shed major-less title?

9:02 PM ET ERIN, Wis. — Here’s the problem with hype: It has an expiration date. At some point, it overstays its welcome, lingering in the air like month-old milk. Perhaps no young golfer in recent years has been more hyped than Rickie Fowler. Consider it a combination of his sponsors’ initiative and his supporters’ loyalty. Since his early days on the PGA Tour, the orange-tinted frenzy around Fowler continued to peak until, well, it expired. It’s not his fault. Not even close. Younger players with similar hype, notably Rory ...

Tesla Factory: Unsafe at Any (Line) Speed?

Tesla suffers from a worker injury rate higher than the industry average, both injuries per 100 workers and time lost from work. Tesla doesn’t dispute the numbers, but says it’s better in the first quarter of this year. All this comes at a time when some workers are pushing to unionize the factory. Tesla produced more than 80,000 cars in 2016 and aims to produce 500,000 vehicles in 2018. Such a speedy ramp-up with newly installed assembly lines presents potential challenges for worker safety as well as quality control. Tesla ...

LeBron's bizarre, rim-rattling struggles from the line

This story appears in ESPN The Magazine’s May 29 Issue. Subscribe today! LeBron James shouldn’t be shooting this free throw. It’s Dec. 31 in Charlotte, with the Cavs up 114-104, and James is walking toward the charity stripe to shoot the technical. Based on pure math, this is a bad call. The four-time MVP is in the middle of the worst free throw shooting season of his career, converting just 67.9 percent. There are better options available to the Cavs — like, for example, four-time All-Star Kevin Love, a career ...
