The organisation behind the Oscars is reviewing the membership of Harvey Weinstein, at a meeting called in the wake of allegations of sexual assaults made against the film producer. Hurricane Irma: UK territory declares state of emergency

A state of emergency has been declared in a British Overseas Territory hit by Hurricane Irma. British Virgin Islands governor Gus Jaspert said there were reports of casualties and fatalities, and help had been requested from the UK. The public sector pay cap should be scrapped in recognition of the work of the emergency services following recent disasters, says Tim Farron. The outgoing Lib Dem leader said firefighters, police and medical staff “deserve so much better”. Grenfell fire: Families given £200,000 from emergency fund

More than £200,000 of a £5m emergency fund has so far been given to families affected by last Tuesday’s fire at Grenfell Tower in Kensington. As of Monday, 180 families directly affected by the blaze had received money, the Grenfell Response Team said. A section of the M1 was closed due to an “aircraft emergency” on a flight from Gran Canaria. Police closed the motorway in both directions near East Midlands Airport to allow “a clear flight path” for the plane, which landed safely on Saturday. Paris attacks: State of emergency 'to protect elections'

The state of emergency imposed in France after the Paris attacks must be extended to protect elections next year, PM Bernard Cazeneuve has said. He said he was seeking the extension until 15 July, covering presidential and parliamentary polls from April to June, and Bastille Day on 14 July.
