Top 10 tech cars of the 2017 Detroit auto show

DETROIT — Just as CES 2017 wound down Sunday, press days at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) kicked in. Hours earlier 2012 ...

Share This article DETROIT — The US is moving more to SUVs, crossovers and trucks, even if this week’s Detroit auto show didn’t reflect the shift. The majority of important new car introductions at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) were more traditional sedans and coupes. That’s because it takes 3-5 years to engineer a new car for the market and automakers go with what they’ve got when an auto show rolls around. Even when sales of light trucks (pickups, SUVs, crossovers) were up 15% and sedans down 10% ...

Knocking down Detroit to revive it comes at a price

Nowhere in America bulldozes derelict homes with Detroit’s ferocity, as the city that has become a byword for U.S. urban decay seeks to engineer a recovery by tearing itself down. A year after the city exited the biggest-ever U.S. municipal bankruptcy, a plan to demolish half of its nearly 80,000 blighted or deteriorating structures — nearly one in three city buildings — is showing some signs of success.     The number of fires – often caused by arson attacks on abandoned homes – dropped in October from a year ago, ...
