LeBron's bizarre, rim-rattling struggles from the line

This story appears in ESPN The Magazine’s May 29 Issue. Subscribe today! LeBron James shouldn’t be shooting this free throw. It’s Dec. 31 in Charlotte, with the Cavs up 114-104, and James is walking toward the charity stripe to shoot the technical. Based on pure math, this is a bad call. The four-time MVP is in the middle of the worst free throw shooting season of his career, converting just 67.9 percent. There are better options available to the Cavs — like, for example, four-time All-Star Kevin Love, a career ...

Done the rock trick, now to hatch some eggs: artist tries bizarre new feat

French artist Abraham Poincheval, who famously spent two weeks inside a bear sculpture and a week inside a rock, began his latest feat on Wednesday – hatching eggs. The 44-year-old, who specializes in performance art, will mimic a mother hen by incubating 10 eggs with his own body heat inside a glass vivarium until they hatch. He reckons the endeavor will take from 21-26 days. “I will, broadly speaking, become a chicken,” Poincheval said last month. Poincheval says he seeks to explore varying concepts of time for different species and ...

A pirated World of Warcraft legacy server project takes a turn for the bizarre

Over the last nine months, we’ve discussed the fate of the legacy server Nostalrius. The project was first created by a team of dedicated World of Warcraft players who wanted to experience the game as it existed prior to the launch of The Burning Crusade in 2007. It was then hit with a cease-and-desist order from Blizzard and forced to shutdown. In most cases, that would’ve been the end of it. But the Nostalrius’ story was big enough that Blizzard agreed to meet the team in question, inviting them to company ...

Sony Confirms Black Friday PSN Sale With a Bizarre Video

That Sony will offer Black Friday deals on the PlayStation Store this year should come as no real surprise. The way in which it shared that news, though, is a bit odd. PlayStation Europe today shared a 30-second YouTube ad which–rather than featuring a sizzle reel of all the games you’ll be able to get for cheap next week–shows the faces of a series of people who are apparently standing right in front of a giant fan. This goes on for 20 seconds before a message suggests you “play it ...

An autonomous bot on Thingiverse is remixing objects into bizarre, artistic creations

Thingiverse is full of virtual objects of all sorts that can be generated on a 3D printer. The one thing most of them have in common is they’re supposed to be useful in some fashion. That’s not the case with the 300 or so items created by Shiv Integer. That’s not a person, but a bot whose sole purpose is to create weird new objects and publish them on Thingiverse. If you need an “Extruder in place of British Hubles” or a lovely “Semi-compatible Wine strapped to a resealable,” Shiv ...
