PSU's Franklin: Win vs. Pitt 'like beating Akron'

1:54 AM ET STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — James Franklin likes to preach to his team that no win is more significant than any other. Whether he meant it as a slight or not, that logic sounded suspiciously like a backhanded jab when Franklin recapped No. 4 Penn State‘s victory over in-state foe Pitt on Saturday. “I know last year for their win [against us], it was like the Super Bowl,” Franklin said. “But for us, this was just like beating Akron.” The Nittany Lions started their season with a 52-0 ...

Tesla’s First Model 3 Rolls Off the Line, as Company Stock Takes a Beating

There’s a pair of seemingly contradictory events happening for Tesla right now. On the one hand, the first Tesla Model 3 supposedly rolled off the assembly line this week, a major achievement for the company. Given the company’s huge valuation and its long-stated goal of building the Model 3 as the first “mainstream” electric vehicle for the masses (a goal since arguably surpassed by other manufacturers), you’d think investors would be thrilled. Instead, the stock has taken a hammering over the past seven days, leaving GM once more in the ...

In Trump era, Rachel Maddow starts beating Fox News

Fox News normally ranks #1 among cable news channels. But lately MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has been challenging Fox at 9 p.m., the centerpiece of the prime time schedule. “The Rachel Maddow Show” surpassed “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in March among 25- to 54-year-old viewers, the demographic that determines advertising rates. Maddow was on track to win again in April. But on Monday night the cable news ratings race changes dramatically. Carlson moves from 9 p.m. to 8, replacing Bill O’Reilly, and Fox’s 5 p.m. talk show “The Five” moves to 9. ...

Other countries are ‘beating’ the US to fully driverless cars. Let them.

Singapore has announced that it is the the first country to host a fully self-driving taxi, powered by a totally real-sounding startup called nuTonomy, which came out of MIT earlier this year and raised several million in investor funding. The actual event is just a little pilot project based in a “business park” that’s only about two square kilometers to a side, but to hear the world’s tech press tell it, this could well be the beginning of the end for America’s global dominance — or at least Uber’s. Singapore ...

Middle Tennessee shocks the world, but not itself, by beating Michigan State

2:25 AM ET Brian BennettESPN Staff Writer Close ESPN.com Big Ten reporter. Joined ESPN.com in 2008. Graduate of the University of Kentucky. print ST. LOUIS –- The small but boisterous Middle Tennessee cheering section started yelling “Biggest upset ever!” as the Blue Raiders ran off the Scottrade Center court Friday. It was hard to argue the point. The No. 15 seed had just knocked off No. 2 seed Michigan State 90-81 in quite probably the most earth-rattling first-round game ever. While seven other 15th-seeded teams had registered wins in the ...
