Westminster attacker 'drove up to 76mph' across bridge

Police believe Khalid Masood was driving up to 76mph on Westminster Bridge where he killed three people, BBC London has learned. Masood also injured 50 people when he drove a car into pedestrians near the Houses of Parliament last Wednesday. He then fatally stabbed a police officer before being shot dead by police – all within 82 seconds. The Metropolitan Police Force said it will not comment on this element of its ongoing investigation. Detectors have picked up an unexplained wave of radioactivity across Europe

France’s public institute for radiological and nuclear risks (IRSN) said they detected tiny amounts of iodine-131, a radionuclide of human origin, in the “ground-level atmosphere” all across Europe back. The isotope was first detected in the second week of January over northern Norway, after which it moved over Finland, Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, and Spain. Levels have already returned to normal. “Since only Iodine-131 was measured, and no other radioactive substances, we think it originates from a pharmaceutical company producing radioactive drugs. Thousands of people have joined protests in London and in cities around the UK against a controversial travel ban on seven mainly Muslim countries imposed by US President Donald Trump. The ban bars citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. MPs are holding an emergency debate on the immigration measures. UK snow: Severe weather sweeps across country

Flights have been cancelled and thousands of people have been advised to evacuate the east coast of England as snow and rain sweep across the UK. London’s Heathrow Airport said airlines pre-emptively cancelled 6% of its flights, 80 out of 1,350, and at Gatwick Airport four were cancelled. Storm Barbara has started crossing Scotland, causing power cuts, school closures and difficult travelling conditions. The highest wind speeds are forecast for the Western Isles, Skye, the north west coast and Northern Isles, with gusts expected of 80-90 mph. Wintry showers and ice have also been forecast for large parts of Scotland. An amber alert has now been issued for the Northern Isles and part of north Caithness on Boxing Day. Calais 'Jungle': Fires rage across migrant camp

Fires are raging across parts of the “Jungle” migrant camp in Calais, three days into a French operation to demolish it. It was unclear who set the dozens of fires overnight and in the morning. The clearance began on Monday and about 4,000 migrants – out of some 7,000 – have been taken from the squalid camp to shelters around France. Windows 10 Reaches at Least 400 Million Installs Across All Devices

Microsoft’s newest operating system, Windows 10, is now installed on at least 400 million devices around the world, the company said, as reported by GameSpot sister site ZDNet. The figure, which is up from 350 million at the end of June, is accurate as of September 26. It counts the number of “active devices,” so the figure may actually be even higher.
