Cowboys' offense, season going nowhere after loss

1:33 AM ET ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys‘ offense suddenly looks like it did in 2015 when Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore started 12 of the 16 games, with Tony Romo twice suffering a broken left collarbone. This time the Cowboys don’t miss Romo. They miss Ezekiel Elliott, who will sit the next four games because of a suspension. They miss All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith, who was out for a second straight game with a groin strain. In a game that seemed like a must-win, the ...

Jerry Jones is powerful, but he hasn’t always been successful

2:50 AM ET ARLINGTON, Texas — Jerry Jones has proved you can be one of the most powerful men in American sports and a bad franchise owner at the same time. Someone should actually award him a trophy for pulling that off. Lord knows Jones could use a trophy. His Dallas Cowboys had just lost by 28 points at home to the Philadelphia Eagles — the runaway leader in the NFC East — when he stood outside the team’s locker room talking about the mess of a franchise he purchased ...

Eagles put Cowboys, NFC East in rearview mirror with 30-point second half

2:04 AM ET ARLINGTON, Texas — Entering Sunday night, the only team that had a legitimate shot to catch the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East was the Dallas Cowboys. That’s a serious long shot now. With the division nearly in hand, the home stretch becomes all about NFC superiority for Philly. Quarterback Carson Wentz and the offense rebounded from a sluggish first half, and the defense harassed Dak Prescott as the Eagles plowed past the Cowboys 37-9 on Sunday. The Eagles (9-1) own the best record in football, while ...

Patriots' week at Air Force Academy pays off with lopsided win

8:00 PM ET MEXICO CITY — The New England Patriots trained all week in the high altitude at the Air Force Academy, which was an experience they said wouldn’t mean as much if they didn’t finish with a victory over the Oakland Raiders. They took care of that rather quickly Sunday with a 33-8 win at Estadio Azteca, where chants of “Brady! Brady! Brady!” filled the smoggy air. The Patriots thumped the Raiders in a complete three-phase effort that reflects their place as one of the league’s best, while positioning ...

Defense carries Vikings to sixth straight win, QB conundrum continues

5:10 PM ET MINNEAPOLIS — This game was supposed to be about offense, remember? The Minnesota Vikings secured their sixth straight win, a 24-7 victory, by holding the Los Angeles Rams to a season low in points. Both offenses stole the headlines entering Week 11, which featured the most improbable matchup of the season between Case Keenum and his former teammate, Jared Goff. But these defenses don’t get talked about enough. Now they will. Minnesota held Todd Gurley to 37 yards rushing and dominated on third down, holding the Rams ...

Sources: Goodell deal done in coming weeks

6:20 AM ET NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s proposed extension still is on track to get done despite the recent battle surrounding the negotiations, and many expect it to be completed at or before the owners’ Dec. 13 meeting in Dallas, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN. Momentum to delay the deal has dissipated “meaningfully,” in the estimation of one league source. If all the bonus criteria are achieved in the proposed new deal, Goodell’s total potential compensation could average about $ 40 million for each of the five years ...

Dolphins waive veteran Maualuga after arrest

10:32 PM ET The Miami Dolphins waived Rey Maualuga on Saturday after the veteran linebacker was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge earlier in the morning. The team announced the move without comment on the legal situation. Police and court records show Maualuga was arrested after an early-morning incident at a downtown Miami nightclub, allegedly involving a dispute over a bar bill. It was unclear if Maualuga had retained an attorney. His overnight arrest was first reported by Pro Football Talk. The Dolphins said they were promoting running back De’Veon ...
