Likely landing spots for Shohei Ohtani

9:26 AM ET We’re now one step closer to Shohei Ohtani coming to the major leagues after the MLB Players Association signed off on a new posting system that was agreed to by MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball. Here’s what we need to know right now: For this offseason, last year’s posting rules will be in play, which means the Nippon Ham Fighters would receive the maximum posting fee of $ 20 million. Once posted, probably in the next two weeks, Ohtani is then eligible to negotiate with any team, ...

Trump blasts Goodell, LaVar in series of tweets

7:22 AM ET President Donald Trump continued to target NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and LaVar Ball, criticizing both in a series of tweets Wednesday. Trump bashed a plan, as reported by The Washington Post, that would keep NFL teams in the locker room during the national anthem, saying it is “almost as bad as kneeling.” The NFL is now thinking about a new idea – keeping teams in the Locker Room during the National Anthem next season. That’s almost as bad as kneeling! When will the highly paid Commissioner finally ...

Alabama has time and the No. 1 spot on its side

9:03 PM ET Time is running out for the two-loss College Football Playoff contenders not named Auburn to make their moves. The latest committee rankings suggest it might already be too late. It’s not simply that undefeated teams Alabama and Miami now lead the rankings, as the Hurricanes leapfrogged their future ACC championship game opponent, Clemson, for the No. 2 spot. The committee also showed that it views both Alabama’s and Miami’s profiles in a very favorable light. Mississippi State, which gave Alabama all it could handle two weeks ago ...

Lakers rally late to avoid embarrassing loss to Bulls

1:48 AM ET LOS ANGELES — Lonzo Ball’s jersey was untucked, and he was snatching rebounds out of the air with attitude. This was far from the sometimes passive rookie the Lakers have seen at times this season. Down by as many as 19 and looking as cooked as a turkey on Thanksgiving, the Lakers refused to quit whenever they fall behind big. The Lakers came to life in the third quarter and fought the Chicago Bulls down the stretch, with Ball hitting the glass like a dominant big man ...

Miami moves up to No. 2 in latest CFP rankings

7:48 PM ET After a week in which most ranked teams took care of business, there was very little movement in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings as the top four teams remained the same, though with a minor shuffle. Miami moves up a spot to No. 2, trading places with Clemson in the process. Alabama remains No.1, while Oklahoma holds steady at No. 4. The Hurricanes, owners of the nation’s highest strength of schedule, moved up despite a close game against Virginia, while the Tigers crushed FCS foe Citadel. ...

Lonzo can't shoot so far, but can he play?

7:45 AM ET Is Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball the player who shot 1-of-9 from the field in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, missing all six of his 3-point attempts, or the player who had a triple-double (11 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists) four nights later in a blowout win over the Denver Nuggets? The answer is both, of course, and while Ball’s inconsistency is hardly unusual for a 20-year-old rookie point guard, the all-or-nothing nature of his present skill set makes him an atypically challenging ...

Why has Harbaugh-mania subsided in Year 3 at Michigan?

9:00 AM ET ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Jim Harbaugh cut himself shaving about a month ago, and there’s a pretty good chance you didn’t hear about it. This is a positive step toward regaining the sanity that was temporarily suspended around Michigan’s celebrity head coach during his first few years on campus. Harbaugh’s nasal nick (“Protruding nose,” was how he explained the incident after asking reporters if his shaving mishap was causing him to bleed during a news conference) was a good test for the oft-floated theory from those on ...

Expect him to do much better in free agency in 2018. He’s not alone. This week’s lessons run through guys in position to land big new contracts. Nathan Peterman had one of the worst first starts in NFL history ...

Kyrie's 47 points rally C's to 16th straight win

2:39 AM ET DALLAS — The Boston Celtics‘ 16-game winning streak has been built on big comebacks and consistent crunchtime dominance. The Dallas Mavericks became the most recent victim Monday night, as the Celtics rallied from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to pull out a 110-102 overtime victory, fueled by All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving‘s spectacular efficient, season-high 47-point performance. It marked the eighth comeback win during Boston’s streak, which is three games shy of tying the franchise record set during the 2008-09 season. The Celtics trailed by ...
