Broncos return blocked PAT for win over Saints

The Denver Broncos stole the game from the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, blocking an extra point attempt as time was running out and returning it for two points that gave them the win.

With New Orleans trailing the Broncos 23-17 with 1 minute, 22 seconds remaining, Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks caught a 32-yard pass from QB Drew Brees in heavy traffic for a touchdown. That tied the score at 23, and a PAT would have given the Saints a 24-23 lead.

But the try by Wil Lutz was blocked by Broncos rookie Justin Simmons, then recovered and returned all the way back to the end zone by rookie safety Will Parks.

The play was reviewed, and the officials ruled that Parks stayed in bounds on the return. The 25-23 lead held up.

The Saints tried an onside kick, but it was recovered by the Broncos to secure the win.
